This was my second attempt at creating a plantable fabric.
Click Here for the First Attempt.
Strong NZ wool, pumice and steel mesh are woven and quilted together, creating a plantable soil that can bend, drape and stretch. As the wool and caught leaf litter break down into a fertile compost, the steel, pumice, mycelium and roots form a resilient living fabric with all the complexities of soil.
Wool as Leaf Litter.
Pumice as Soil Particles.
Steel as Bedrock.
This iteration of a plantable fabric genuinely worked...
... But it didn't work great.
Everything but the succulents couldn't survive in the fabric. And while it's still wonderful to see the succulents live, it wasn't what I envisioned for the fabric. Design alone was not enough to develop this idea.
I needed a new apprach, and so I made my third and final attempt at a Woven Soil.
